External synthesizers

Stage Arranger can send accompaniment and live RIGHT parts to a hardware synthesizer through MIDI. The synthesizer produces the sound; the computer sends notes and supported control messages. You can keep a local bank for simultaneous listening, or choose No Bank without loading samples.

Screenshots show the actual version 1.0.9 interface with example settings. Device names and available voices depend on your setup. The interface is available in seven languages through Settings > Language.

Connect and choose the output

Connect by USB MIDI or through a MIDI interface, then select the correct MIDI output in Settings > MIDI. On the synthesizer, enable reception on the channels used by Stage Arranger. RIGHT1 and RIGHT2 output channels can be assigned separately. If the same keyboard sends notes back to its own sound engine, check Local Control and MIDI thru settings to avoid doubled notes or a loop. Start with a low listening level.

No Bank / Genos 2 MIDI

Choose No Bank / Genos 2 MIDI in Settings > Sound Bank when you want the synthesizer's own sounds. This mode loads an address catalogue, not audio samples. It sends the original style and OTS voice addresses, except for your manual replacements. Local Audio does not produce bank sound in this mode. Choosing a local bank again restores the ordinary bank workflow; Browse remains available.

A catalogue is not a sound bank

The Genos 2 catalogue includes regular, MegaVoice, Legacy and drum-kit addresses. Seeing a voice in the list does not mean that an older or different synthesizer contains it. The receiving instrument decides which addresses it supports. An unsupported address can sound different or remain silent. Choose a supported replacement in the part mixer or RIGHT voice browser. Without an OTS voice assignment, the initial RIGHT voice is piano, program 01 in the interface.

MIDI output modes

For a local bank, the output mode remains part of your MIDI setup. Yamaha / XG and Yamaha / XG Compatible are distinct routes; use the one suitable for your instrument and style. Multi (no voice changes) is for a receiver with sounds assigned manually, so the program does not replace them with Bank Select and Program Change. No Bank uses original-address routing and preserves the ordinary bank-mode preference for later. Changing a local source is not a hardware capability scan.

Local and external sound

With a local bank selected, Local Audio can be enabled alongside MIDI output or disabled to listen only to the synthesizer. The local renderer and the hardware may sound different even at the same voice address: they use different samples and processing. Local Stage EQ, filters and Master audio processing are not sent as hardware audio. Check the selected MIDI mode, voice address and receiving channel if a kit or instrument sounds wrong.

Style/OTS or CONFIG?

SAVE STYLE writes supported musical edits to the style and OTS: voice addresses, part levels, pan, effect sends, supported DSP settings and native note envelopes. Record a live RIGHT setup into the desired Auto Voice slot before saving the style. SAVE CONFIG stores the wider local setup, including Stage EQ and filters, Master processing and external sample references. A standard style does not embed your WAV, SF2 or plugin files. Keep the original style and save an edited copy.

What WAV records

REC WAV records the program's final local stereo output, including the microphone when its signal is routed into the mix. MIDI messages do not contain audio. To record the sound of an external synthesizer, connect its audio outputs to your interface and include that input in the recording path. Prevent feedback when monitoring the return.
