Audio setup

Settings now has separate Audio and MIDI pages. Audio controls the computer's driver, device, input and output channels, sample rate and buffer. MIDI controls keyboard input and the connection to an external instrument.

Audio setup
Screenshots show the actual version 1.0.9 interface with example settings. Device names and available voices depend on your setup. The interface is available in seven languages through Settings > Language.

Driver and channels

Open Settings > Audio. Select an available device type and device, then enable the output pair connected to your headphones or speakers. For an interface with its own ASIO driver, select that driver. Enable input channels only when you need a microphone or another audio input. Local Audio and MIDI output are selected separately in Settings > MIDI.

Latency and buffer

A smaller buffer reduces the delay after a key press but leaves less processing time. Try 256 samples, then 512 or 1024 if you hear clicks. Match the sample rate to your interface. Close competing audio applications and test the same style again. A larger buffer cannot correct a wrong MIDI route or an instrument balance problem.

What WAV records

REC WAV records the program's final local stereo output, including the microphone when its signal is routed into the mix. MIDI messages do not contain audio. To record the sound of an external synthesizer, connect its audio outputs to your interface and include that input in the recording path. Prevent feedback when monitoring the return.
